....So… Happy Merry Ending (South Korea, 2023)

Happy Merry Ending || 해피메리엔딩 is South Korea bl series, 2023, current rating on MDL (19.5.2023) dropped from 7.5 to 7.4, current number of Watchers raised from 6,050 to 6,194).

Mains Lee Dong Won as Seung Jun, Byun Sung Tae as Jae Hyun. Around 15 minutes per episode, 8 episodes in total. Themes:  Pianist Male Lead, Part-time Worker Male Lead, Singer Male Lead, Gay Male Lead, Gay Romance, Panic Disorder, Flashback To Past, LGBTQ+. It is a miniseries, adapted from a webtoon.

Well… and in the end, we were given a - not dead–fish kiss. …to not complain much about the previous not-kisses, I guess, and everything not good in between. …hurray! …?

Anyhow… two dudes, one of them having PTSD thanks to his ex. He happens to be a singer, so him having panic attacks from people if not under his pills is not an ideal.

He partly works as a wedding singer, where he meets the other dude who partly works there as a pianist. (Lovely already, right?) But the first dude is internally damaged thanks to his ex-shit BF, so he does not bear thinking about commitments… and wears black glasses when singing. …not like Harry Potter at all. But the pianist starts to conquer the vocalist, his love interest… (ehm, the first dude’s second part time is that - a vocal coach  or something). (*SPOILER ALERT*HE EVEN LEARNS TO SING - AND SOUNDS BETTER THAN THE VOCAL DUDE,IMHO*END OF ALERT…EHM,SPOILER*)

Well… cutting it short, pianist and vocalist get married… or something like that.

…now.

“These (basically) 2 hours felt like a summary of the story, not the whole story itself.” (Kate) … yes. As many miniseries from Korea feel. But! It helped me much not having to wait for most of the episodes since I watched most of them in bulk.

“too many side characters/plot” (BL Compilations) - I can’t judge since I don’t remember most of them.

“Needed more time” (queenmidalah) - no, please, no - that would definitely not help the series at all.

“A drama to forget.” (felcie) - not necessarily, the mains were so cute…at the beginning. :D And they tried at the end.

Overall It seemed to me that this series, as many these days, was more a commercial for the dude’s singing abilities (a musical? Bollywood maybe?) more than a seriously taken series, but okay,I’m just b*tch here. What I believe and mean though is - in favor of f.e. singing they omitted some layers of the story and that is what makes it seem as a “summary of the story, not the whole story” itself. They lost several notches of depth and impactfulness of the story, but it was not so bad really. It was just unfortunately flatter than it could have been. And I agree with BL Compilations - among pros of this one is the wedding venue, showing anxiety medication, cute parts, kiss at the very end of the series and I would say the main leads are really cute and look interesting together. Plus - where they didn’t try to look cool, it had some interesting serious moments that looked reeeal interesting, so kudos for that. And for the theme of manipulative

shitty stalking ex.

Anyways, no matter what, don’t forget to enjoy!
